To relate to others compassionately is a challenge. It means not shutting down on that person, but first not shutting down on ourselves. To do this requires openness, not fixating or holding on to anything, communicating from the heart and being present for that person.
The intellect must be fully developed before it is brought to a point of neutrality. Once mental cultivation is achieved, then focus on the part of the mind that is far beyond scholarly, that has no discrimination, no categorization, and no dualism. Learn how to balance and combine both.
Realize that all things change, then there is nothing you will try to hold on to. You cannot control the future; you might as well relax into it and accept it no matter what it brings. There is an ancient tale that says whatever happens, you look at it without judgement and say, “some good some bad”.
At the beginning of an enterprise how to proceed may be unclear. There may be many choices and the lack of direction may make things uncomfortable. First muster your internal strength, and, if possible, seek direction and guidance from others. Then a more concrete plan will unfold.
