Hope and fear is a feeling with two sides, as long as there is one there is always the other. Hope and fear come as a sense that we lack something and we are unable to sit, relax and be ourselves. If we hold on to hope and fear, it robs us of the present moment.
Do not take things for granted; remember everything that comes to you fits in an overall scheme. Every ordinary moment, every detail, should be a celebration of your personal understanding. Acknowledge the qualities of everyday things and have gratitude for both the good and bad in your life.
We cannot attain clarity and simplicity by avoiding the world. Do your work, take care of others, practice virtue without expecting any reward, and when you understand the higher truths retain an ordinary manner; this is true clarity, true simplicity, true living.
If we are to lead others we first must learn to serve. We must remain accessible and responsive to the views of those we lead. At the same time, we must have firm principles so that we do not vacillate when there is only a question of current opinion.
