Patience is the antidote to anger, by patience we don’t mean “grin and bear it”. Instead of reacting suddenly, smell it, look at it, and open yourself to seeing what’s there. The journey of patience involves relaxing, opening to what is happening with a sense of wonder.
We will put in the extra effort and even go through hardship, if we know that we will gain something better for it. Self-discipline, if practiced with understanding and clear goals, will lead to a greater result. If you put in extra effort in this way, you gain a better life.
Don’t only be absorbed in your own needs, take the needs of all people as your own. Be good to those who are good; also be good to those absorbed in their own needs. Trust those who trust, also trust those who are not trustworthy. Merge with all others rather than stand apart judgmentally.
When you run into an obstruction and don’t know what to do, the best thing to do is to keep still, but this does not mean giving up. You are only yielding to a situation and waiting for a more auspicious time to react. An obstruction that only lasts for a time is useful for self development.
