If we try to protect ourselves from suffering, we become fearful and alienated, caring only for the people close to us. If we primarily try to shield ourselves from discomfort we suffer, yet if we don’t close off and let our heart hurt, we discover our kinship with all beings.
When you feel in the zone or that life is going right, the feeling is not something you can formulate or possess. If you try to find it, you cannot. The way it comes to you is by being open and focused on what you are doing and then, as if from nowhere, the feeling comes.
To eliminate the vexation of the mind, it is a matter of not-doing. Simply avoid becoming attached to what you see and think. Relinquish the notion that you are separate from the mind of the universe. This way you can recover your pure insight and see through all illusions.
In ancient times moral strength was more important than physical strength. Parading one’s powers and trying to outshine others brings about misfortune. Be sincere and truthful act with courtesy, do not attempt anything that is not in harmony with the times.
