Most of us prefer practices that will not cause us discomfort, at the same time we want to be healed. Our practice should not be how we avoid discomfort and fears, but how we relate to difficulty, our emotions and the unpredictable encounters of the day.
If we allow ourselves to become absorbed in our self-centered views, our mind will become frantic and turbulent. We should seek moments of solitude that will allow our minds to settle. Just like water, our mind will become clear if it is allowed to be still.
Don’t only be absorbed in your own needs, take the needs of all people as your own. Be good to those who are good, also be good to those absorbed in their own needs. Trust those who trust, also trust those who are not trustworthy. Merge with all others rather than stand apart judgmentally.
Before abandoning your work to help others, weigh the matter carefully. When helping others you must be careful and not to deplete your own resources. Helping others is the best way to learn to give and receive, in this way you invariably help yourself.
