A good time to start a self-cultivation practice is right now, do not wait for the right time. Even if you feel depressed, tired or too addicted to your habits, start right now. The idea is to start with small things, but be consistent and add a little each day, the benefits are endless.
You may receive impulses or visions, but what you want to do is enter a state of consciousness. Rather than explore mystical states, the eventual object is to transcend all enslavement to perception, only then you will be able to adequately judge reality.
When things arise, let them come; when things depart, let them go. Don’t possess, don’t expect. Practice undiscriminating virtue, take care of those who are deserving also, equally take care of those who are not. These practices calm the mind and bring one into harmony with all things.
