All of us are like eagles who have forgotten we know how to fly and are trapped in our nest of old food, excrement and stale air. We need to let go of everything and step to the edge of our nest and soar. You cannot soar and carry all the baggage with you.
Self-cultivation means steady, gradual progress. Progress is often so subtle that we may feel the effort is futile, but we must keep doing it every day with the same enthusiasm. Be patient and you will see what the accumulation of your effort yields.
When you take care of things, never waste anything; when you care for people, never abandon anyone. If you are not attached to your own ideas and open to reality, you will be able to care for all that come to you, they are your greatest sources of wisdom.
If contention is not resolved properly it could lead to the use of force. Using force is evil and should be approached with the utmost caution. There are only two kinds of force that can be justified, overthrowing a tyrant and protecting a country from invasion.
