What is it that allows our goodwill to expand and our prejudices and anger to decrease? We are so entrenched in our personal concerns we ignore our kinship with all others. Train in seeing others as no different than yourself and open your hearts and minds in difficult situations.
Cease all distinctions between the self and others. We label things as inside us or outside us, as subjective or objective. When we train in seeing that we are not different we come to understand there is no us, no other; that everything and everybody is part of the whole.
Listen to people, respond to their needs when asked, do not try to manipulate them, do not give advice. If you give advice, do you notice that most people don’t act on it, and it probably frustrates you that they didn’t, even though you know what’s best for them??
Joy rests on firmness and strength within, manifesting itself outwardly as yielding and gentle. This joyful mood is infectious and promotes harmonious relationships with others. Truth and strength must dwell in the heart, gentleness reveals itself with social intercourse.
