If we try to protect ourselves from suffering, we become fearful and alienated, caring only for the people close to us. If we primarily try to shield ourselves from discomfort, we suffer. Yet, if we don’t close off and just allow our heart to hurt, we discover less resistance and kinship with all beings.
Spiritual devotions can only be a personal thing, what you do with your daily devotions is purely for your own sake. If you put your ideals on a grand scale, trying to solve some fundamental social problem, they will become compromised by the contradictions of life.
Let go of all desires, detach yourself from all things, this way you will be fulfilled. Dissolve all duality, the idea of good and bad, beautiful, and ugly, etc.; practice undiscriminating virtue. These practices are the beginning of liberation and a harmonious oneness with the universe.
Generally, when something is complete, we let the success turn our heads and look for something else to do. When something is complete, we should guide its course to the start of another new achievement. This way the first achievement will not start to decay or decline.
