We must seek a level of consciousness beyond the intellect. We must study, but not to the point that the emphasis on direct experience is lost. If we combine the intellect with the emphasis on direct experience, then there will be no barrier to the wordless perception of reality.
Shining the light on yourself will never enlighten you. Being self-righteous precludes you from being right. Parading yourself parodies leadership. Boasting about yourself will never boost your eminence. Avoid the cultivation of these ego-bloated voids.
The ancient teachings are there to offer you guidance for favorable action in your daily life and, at the same time, to avoid misconduct that invites misfortune. Consulting these teachings will help you plan for the future and gives you a way to study your past actions.
