We need to understand that when we do harm to another, we do harm to ourselves. We need to live humanely in this world, choosing to love others and ignoring our personal concerns. This kinship with others might be what it takes to save the planet from extinction.
We do not have enough peace. Yet peace will never be attained by perpetual action. Give up all unnecessary activity. Give up all arbitrary actions. Make yourself receptive and keep your mind open. The peace that you seek shall be quickly at hand.
When we talk about emptying your mind or opening your mind, it doesn’t mean supressing your thoughts, but to just step back from them. The mind is originally empty, and when it remains empty without grasping or rejecting it can respond to natural things without judgement.
If we remain at the mercy of moods, of hope and of fear, aroused by the outer world, we lose out inner consistency of character. Then our experiences are merely effects produced by the outside world, not experiences evoked by our own true nature.
Quote: There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.
