When something hurts in life, we want to get rid of it right away. Doing this, we naively cultivate a subtle aggressiveness against ourselves. Instead, we could aspire to be kind right in the moment, to relax, and open our heart and mind to what is right in front of us.
Go through life without showing off or attracting attention to yourself, this will only attract the hostility of others. Accomplish all you want without arising the scorn or envy of others. Make achievements only for the sake of fulfilling your inner yearnings.
Without thinking about good and evil we can simply live totally in our human natures, not compromising anyone else. Give evil nothing to oppose and it will disappear by itself, just step out of its way. Do this by living a virtuous, selfless life and being of service to all.
When unfriendly forces are advancing, retreat is the right course of action. We are not running away, but are offering some resistance, while planning for the time when the aggressive forces end. Anger and hate are not resistance, all resistance must be done in a thoughtful and considerate way.
