To relate to others compassionately is a challenge, it means not shutting down on that person, but first not shutting down on ourselves. To do this requires openness, not fixating or holding on to anything, communicating from the heart and being present for that person.
What we do only has meaning in the here and now, it will not remain in the next instant. Just do what you can for the present and leave everything else to happen naturally. We all strive to do things, but there is truly nothing to be done. Be born again each morning.
We make a clay pot, but it is the inner empty space we use. We build a house, but it is the inner space that makes it livable. Do we create what is, to use what is not? We work with being, but nonbeing is what we use. Non-being and being create each other. Therefore, being is for benefit and non-being is for usefulness.
We should not try to combat our own faults directly, the longer and harder we fight them the more victorious they will be. Fighting our faults by making progress in the good is the only way. Take care not to become hardened and obstinate, remain receptive to impressions by continuous self-examination.
