Patience is not learned when everything is going well, but rather when things do not go our way. Patience is learned when our expectations collide with the reality of the situation. Patience implies willingness to be alive, rather than trying to seek harmony.
No matter what circumstances life may present we must adapt, whether we think the situation is good or bad, resistance is useless. Concentrate on perceiving the circumstances around us and act accordingly. Being flexible and adjusting to the times is one of the secrets of life.
It is possible to be a gentle contemplative hermit right here in the middle of everything, utterly unaffected, thoroughly sustained and rewarded by your integral practices. Encouraging others, giving freely to all, awakening and purifying the world with all you do.
Don’t let yourself get swept away by unfavorable circumstances or let your steadfastness be shaken. You can avoid this by maintaining your inner peace, remaining outwardly calm and yielding. By doing this you can overcome the greatest of difficulties.
