Open yourself up to the continually changing, impermanent nature of your own being and that of reality. You will increase your capacity to care about others and not to be afraid. You will begin to think of your life as offering endless opportunities to start to do things differently.
If you are true to your inner nature you will withstand the vicissitudes and adornment of life, for neither bad fortune nor good fortune will alter the way we are, but we should patiently bear both. No matter what, we must always be true to our inner selves.
You cannot clear your mind by constantly meditating; this makes your mind narrow, not clear. You cannot attain clarity and simplicity by avoiding the world. Practice virtue without expecting it from others, retain an ordinary manner, then you will have true clarity, true simplicity.
If we remain at the mercy of moods, of hope and of fear, aroused by the outer world, we lose out inner consistency of character. Then our experiences are merely effects produced by the outside world, not experiences evoked by our own true nature.
