Practicing being gentle with yourself helps awaken your genuine heart. This compassion, this clarity, this openness is like something we have forgotten. Lightening up in your practice, sitting there being gentle with yourself, you are rediscovering something.
When you feel in the zone or that life is going right, the feeling is not something you can formulate or possess and if you try to, find it you cannot. The way it comes to you is by being open and focused on what you are doing and then as if from nowhere the feeling comes.
You cannot clear your mind by constantly meditating; this makes your mind narrow not clear. You cannot attain clarity and simplicity by avoiding the world. Practice virtue without expecting it from others, retain an ordinary manner. Then you will have true clarity, true simplicity.
The ideal justice is seldom attained because the enforcement of the rules is inconsistent. To administer justice the executive needs to be clear in mind and firm in action. Their attitude should be compassionate and the purpose educational, the aim is to prevent further mischief.
