As long as we run away from discomfort we are going to get caught in a cycle of unhappiness and disappointment. Instead, ask yourself, “Can I touch the center of my pain, can I sit with suffering (yours and mine) without trying to make it go away and feel it open me?”
What we do only has meaning in the here and now, it will not remain in the next instant. Just do what you can for the present and leave everything else to happen naturally. We all strive to do things, but there is truly nothing to be done. Be born again each morning.
Study the teachings of the ancients, dissolve all concepts of duality, be of service to others without expectation of reward and gently eliminate all obstacles to your own understanding of the subtle truth by being humble and maintaining unconditional sincerity.
Living a life of sincerity and integrity is not any guarantee against bad luck or ugly surprises. But life has learned that these traits will improve the odds of success, that working with a natural merit and practicing a natural good can be two of the best rules one can live by.
