If we try to protect ourselves from suffering, we become fearful and alienated, caring only for the people close to us. If we primarily try to shield ourselves from discomfort we suffer, yet if we don’t close off and let our heart hurt, we discover our kinship with all beings.
An hourglass is like our consciousness, alternating between the various states represented by the hourglass. The sand going from one side to the other represents polarity or duality. We focus on the sand, the material duality, rather than trying to understand the movement.
We treat our earth as a thing to be possessed and controlled. The planet is a living organism that we are all part of. The world’s pulse is our pulse, the world’s rhythms are our rhythms. To treat our earth with care, moderation and love is to be in synchrony with ourselves.
Wait for the proper time to begin things you have planned. Waiting calls for patience, it does not mean giving up. During the period of waiting cultivate self confidence, steadfastness and uprightness. Be cautious, then the outcome will bring success.
