When we cling to thoughts and memories, we are clinging to what cannot be grasped. When one thought has entered and another has not begun, rest in that gap. Train in returning to that very moment, all compassion and inspiration comes from that gap.
We should, through introspection, search out what we are lacking and then work on fulfilling it. Once we identify and complete some part of ourselves, we should move on to the next thing we lack until finally we feel complete and whole.
We cannot attain clarity and simplicity by avoiding the world. Do your work, take care of others, practice virtue without expecting any reward and when you understand the higher truths, retain an ordinary manner. This is true clarity, true simplicity, true living.
Don’t let yourself get swept away by unfavorable circumstances, or let your steadfastness be shaken. You can avoid this by maintaining your inner peace, remaining outwardly calm and yielding. By doing this and being cautious and reserved we can overcome the greatest adversaries.
