We don’t open our hearts and minds to others because it confuses us, and we don’t feel brave or sane enough to open up. To help us open up look clearly and compassionately at ourselves, feel confident and fearless about looking into someone else’s eyes.
In search of our true selves, our physical existence is the best place to start. There should be neither denial nor mortification of the body. We need to maintain our body through diet and exercise, and keep it free of blockages and pain, looking beyond it to find our true selves.
To cleanse oneself of contaminations, such as anger or self-absorption, practice undiscriminating virtue. To practice virtue, give without limitations, without prejudice, and without expectations. If your willingness to give is limited, so is your ability to receive.
What is required to hold human society together is that we unite with others. This is accomplished by sincerity in forming relationships with a common goal. If others want to join with you, they should be welcomed and those who wish to leave should be let go.
