When you fear something, you become unnerved and usually do what it tells you to do. Listen to it, even respect it, even be convinced of it, but if you don’t do what it tells you to do it has no power over you. In this way, you defeat what you are fearful of.
When immigrants adopt the host country’s spirituality, they generally must learn an entirely new system. They must cope with the conflict between the two cultures, until they reach a spiritual stage where cultural differences become meaningless.
There are three things to treasure: simplicity, patience, and compassion. Simple in your actions and thoughts and you return to the source. Patience with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are. Compassionate towards yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world.
Being still when its time to be still and going forward when it is time to go forward, in this way rest and movement agree, this will help you quiet the heart. When you become calm, then you can turn to the outside world, as you no longer see the struggle and tumult of individuals.
