Patience is not learned when everything is going well, but rather when things do not go our way. Patience is learned when our expectations collide with the reality of the situation. Patience implies willingness to be alive, rather than trying to seek harmony.
At first your self-cultivation practice may seem quite restricting, but eventually you reach a point where everything flows quite spontaneously. Doubts fade away and every day is filled with new, fresh and wonderful insights, replacing the banality of ordinary life.
If you want love and respect from people, treat everybody with love and respect. If you compete with no one, no one will compete with you. If you are not guided by your ego and emotions and let yourself be guided by wisdom instead, you will be able to respond to your needs and those of others.
When conditions are difficult sometimes retreat is the only answer. When you carry your retreat out correctly, it is a sign of strength. We do not simply abandon the situation, but through perseverance and single acts of resistance we prepare for the counter movement.
